At Summerbee, we have a duty to safeguard your privacy and all your personal data that is collected during your visit to our website.

Summerbee operates from the small island of Westray in Orkney. It's a small community with an local economy that's based on trust, honesty and respect. We believe your visit to our website should be no different. We don't trade, sell, rent or disclose any personal data or email lists to other people or companies for marketing purposes or otherwise.  

This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect from you, how we use that data, who can see your data and how you can access or delete the personal data we hold.

Cookies:

Cookies are small text files that are downloaded from a website you visit and stored locally on your device. When you visit a site your browser will check if you already have cookies stored for that site. Our website uses cookies to track user visits, allowing data analysis to show such things as the numbers of returning customers, customer location (by country or region) and recording how long customers stay on our website. Cookies do not identify you as an individual, but simply track your browsing patterns. They can also point to previous browsing session information such as items placed in your shopping basket or items previously purchased or viewed which will then be retrieved the next time you visit. 

Viewing the website and browsing the website automatically requires you to accept our use of Cookies. Cookies can be deleted from your device or disabled by referring to your browsers settings or help section.

Personal Information;

When using the Summerbee website or contacting us to place an order by telephone, you will need to input or tell us the following information during the ordering process: Customer Name, Billing Address, Shipping Address, Telephone Number, Email Address and Customer Password (should you choose to have an account). This information is securely stored in a database within our shopping cart platform (Litecart) on the server provided by our web-host (Weshuk). Copies of your order, invoice and shipping information are automatically generated and emailed to us to allow us to quickly prepare your order for shipping. These emails are archived and securely stored to allow us to track your previous purchases and identify product information.

Invoices and any emails regarding a purchase including payment confirmation may be securely stored for up to 7 years should they be required for auditing purposes by HMRC.

When you enter payment information, this is NOT collected by Summerbee, but collected by our payment processor PayPal in a secure manner. Again, an email is generated to inform us of your payment which allows us to progress your order to dispatch. These emails are archived and securely stored. Summerbee does not keep or have access to your personal payment information like card numbers, card expiry dates or CVV numbers..

We use MailChimp, to deliver our newsletter. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter. For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice. You can unsubscribe to general mailings at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails.

Security

Our website has a valid security certificate (verified by cPanel, Inc, our hosting platform) which means any information sent to our website is private. For more information, click on the lock symbol that appears in your browser next to the URL of the website.

If you initially choose to create an account with Summerbee, you will be asked to choose a secure and unique password that you can then use to access your account details. Once created, this password is stored in our online database and you can change it at any time via your account. If you forget your password, you can ask for it to be reset and a new password sent to your email address. When you regain access to your account, we strongly advise that you then change this reset password to a brand new password in order to keep your account secure.

Accessing your personal data

In accordance with the EU's GDPR 2018, you are entitled to ask Summerbee to view, amend or erase the personal information that we hold. You can ask for a copy of all the personal data that we hold about you, even if you do not wish to change it. You can ask for this information by contacting us via email, telephone or post, we will you to fill in a Data Request Form and return it to us. You will need to provide a copy of proof of identification (birth certificate/driving license/passport) and proof of address before we can send this sensitive information to you.

Right To Erasure

You are also entitled to request that Summerbee erases all personal information that we keep with immediate effect. In most cases, Summerbee will need to keep some information relating to you, like sales invoices. This is so we can complete our legal obligations like filing tax returns. In this instance we will let you know what information we have to keep and why.
