Latin name: Citrus sinensis
Source country: Italy
Aroma: Fresh, uplifting, zesty, sweet.
Appearance: Yellow to orange thin liquid.
Derivation: Cold expression from the peel.
Chemicals: As in all citrus oils limonene is the main constituent comprising about 90%
of all constituents. Other chemicals include myrcene, pinene, linalool, and octanal.
Limonene is what gives citrus oils their aroma
Uses: Orange oil is uplifting and warming for the mood. The limonene in it
can be sensitising on the skin for a small percentage of people. It should not
be used directly on the skin before going into the sunlight since it is
phototoxic. It will help in cases of anxiety and stress. It is best used as a
vapour therapy because of its uplifting properties. As a massage oil it can
help with colds and flu, or in creams and lotions boost the lymphatic and
immune system.
Note: As with all pure essential oils, dilute appropriately with a suitable carrier oil
before using on the skin. Do not take essential oils internally
